    • 1. Soak glutinous rice one night in advance. I use round glutinous rice, which is from Northeast China. I have been using this type of rice all along, also known as Jiangmi. It feels more sticky, has a good taste, and is not so messy.
    • 2. Wash the dried zongzi leaves and zongzi ropes with water in advance and soak until soft.
    • 3. Red dates can be soaked well and pitted, and various types of dates in bags can also be used. The taste is sweeter. My mother-in-law brought this big date from Shandong, although it is a dry date, it is super sweet.
    • 4. Prepare two pieces of zongzi leaves stacked together, roll them up as shown in the picture, form an inverted cone, and add glutinous rice and dates.
    • 5. Put some glutinous rice on the dates, snap off the zongzi leaves on top, wrap them tightly around the upper part of the circular printing cone.
    • 6. Fold the extra leaves to one side, turn them along the Zongzi, and then bind the zongzi rope.
