In my hometown, I steam many types of steamed buns during the Chinese New Year. I have been away from my hometown for decades. But customs have not changed. I steam my hometown's Hua Zao Zi Mo Mo every Chinese New Year. It's delicious and beautiful.

Steps to make Hua Zao Mo Mo

  • 1. Put yeast powder, warm water, and noodles into the flour. Mix until there is no dry powder, knead and cover with plastic wrap for fermentation.
  • 2. The fermentation is completed in about 90 minutes and the exhaust is released.
  • 3. Divide the dough into equally sized pieces and knead them into a garden with the mouth facing downwards.
  • 4. Take a Mantou and make a hole.
  • 5. Put a red date in it.
  • 6. Put it in a pot for about 20 minutes of secondary fermentation, then steam over high heat for 20 minutes.
